BE A PACK LEADER
At Urban K9, we view dog training as the art of perfecting the relationship between humans and dogs. In order for any relationship to work, certain values must exist, for example, trust, respect, empathy and understanding, or a good system of communication - and it is only when one or more of such values are missing, undermined or imbalanced, would issues then arise. That is why we recognise that certain fundamental values make up the building blocks for new dog owners when they bring a dog into their lives, and certain important values have not been upheld when dog owners encounter behavioural problems in their dogs, and dog training is all about helping people develop, nurture, and fine-tune different values in their relationship with their dogs.
Therefore, when clients consult us for issues with their dogs, our solutions go beyond teaching dogs a fixed set of obedience commands, or employing techniques from only one school of thought to achieve compliance from dogs, simply put - we do not have a cookie cutter approach.
The Master Trainer
At Urban K9, we strive for clients to first understand the way their dogs think, which is why we educate people on canine states of mind, canine cognition, and how to read canine body language.
We also strive for clients to understand how to fulfill each of their dogs’ needs, what motivates or dissuades their dogs’ behaviours, which is why we educate people on different training techniques and on operant conditioning.
Most importantly, we strive for our clients to be equipped with long-term, constructive solutions, which is why we encourage and guide people on individualizing and adapting the knowledge, concepts, and techniques that we have imparted.
